Taking care of your contacts
Your lenses don't ask for much. Treat them to a little routine, and they'll bring you clear, comfortable vision. Depending on your lenses, you'll have to follow different types of care and replacement schedules. Don't worry, your eye doctor will teach you the ins and outs of your specific lens. And if you need written instructions, you can always download the Patient Instruction Guide for your specific ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses.
Daily wear lenses: Once you've removed them at the end of the day, they'll need to be cleaned and disinfected, then stored in a contact lens case until you reapply. There are many multi-purpose contact lens solutions that clean and disinfect in one step, making lens care even easier. And don't forget to change your lens case as recommended by your eye doctor.
Continuous wear lenses: You can wear these lenses continuously, even while sleeping, for up to six nights before they are discarded and replaced with a fresh pair. They can even be removed, cleaned, disinfected, and rinsed and reapplied if desired. If you put them in a case, you'll need to clean and disinfect them (like daily wear lenses) before you reapply.
Daily disposable lenses: Wear them for one day, then discard and replace with a fresh, new pair every day. No cleaning. No disinfecting. No storing.
Tips to keep you on schedule
The easiest way to maintain your doctor's recommended schedule is to sign up for ACUMINDER™. You'll receive convenient reminders to change your contact lenses, purchase new contact lenses, even when to schedule your next eye exam.
If you're not signed up for ACUMINDER™, here are some tips that can help keep you on schedule:
- Always replace your lenses on the same day of the week. Many people discard their old lenses on Sunday night and start with a fresh pair on Monday morning.
- If you get paid every two weeks, change your lenses on payday. Or use the 1st and 15th of every month.
- Mark your calendar - paper or electronic - to remind yourself when to replace your lenses.
- When you open up a new box of lenses, write your "fresh lens" day or date on the individual lens packages.
- Write "Reorder" on your last box of lenses, along with the telephone number of your eye doctor.
