Web Accessibility Initiative
Our website and mobile apps are designed and developed to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA standards, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA standards, as outlined by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), and European Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882). We train members of our team on accessibility best practices and regularly audit for usability testing to ensure that our platforms are accessible to all individuals.
General Description of Service
Johnson & Johnson Vision websites provide information about Johnson & Johnson Vision products, services, and company details. It is designed to offer a seamless user experience for all visitors, including those with disabilities. The website includes, without limitation, sections on vision care products, procedures, and general eye health information.
How the Site is Built for Accessibility Standards
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. We aim to achieve compliance to Level AA as a minimum and Level AAA when possible, as defined in WCAG v2.1 standards.
We also strive to make all pages validate to a W3C formal grammar (XHTML Strict or HTML 5).
Layout
The site uses Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to control all of the presentation layout. Tables are used only to present data.
As a result screen reader users can use the screen reader’s navigation key to get around the site. If you are listening to the site, menus are grouped together in a more logical fashion.
Content on Our Site
The content has been written and formatted to make it accessible. For example:
- Headings highlight sections of text (a h1 starts the content area of each page).
- Sentences are short with the meaning at the beginning.
- Links use meaningful text
- Forms can be navigated using the tab key
Compliance Status
Not all criteria are considered main components. The templates used on our global websites were developed in collaboration with accessibility partners and have undergone external accessibility audits. These audits include:
- Manual Audits: Conducted during the design phase to ensure accessibility.
- Automated Audits: Utilized to assess compliance with accessibility standards.
This comprehensive approach helps to ensure that our websites are accessible to all users.
Accessibility Features
The website is structured to ensure easy navigation and accessibility. Of the 9 WCAG criteria that the website meets, the most important features you should be able to access are:

- WCAG criterion 2.4.7 – Focus visible – Focus states were designed to be visible across many visibility needs (example: graphic focus state rather than color changing focus state)
Of the 31 WCAG criteria for which the website still needs improvement, not all criteria are present, the most important known limitations are listed below:
- WCAG criterion 1.1.1 – Non-test content [text alternative]: Some text alternatives lack sufficiency or are missing entirely (example: video scripts)
