Understanding contact lenses

Get the lowdown on how contact lenses work and whether they’re right for you.

What are contact lenses?

Contact lenses are thin prescription lenses worn directly on the eye. They normally come in two varieties, soft and gas-permeable, which are suited to different wearers and eyesight types. People may change soft contact lenses daily, 2-weekly or even up to 30 days.

How do contact lenses work?

They offer a similar function to glasses, in that they correct refractive errors in eyesight, though they can provide a wider field of vision. They can remedy near-sightedness, far-sightedness, astigmatism or age-related far-sightedness. You’ll need a prescription for your contact lenses, so you’ll have to see an optician first.

What are the benefits of contact lenses?

Contact lenses have a range of benefits. For one, they move with your eyes to give you a full field of focused vision, wherever you look. They’re great for people who want freedom from glasses and a natural look.

Where can I buy ACUVUE® contact lenses?

You can buy ACUVUE® contact lenses from majority of opticians in the UK. But don’t forget, you’ll require an eye test and prescription first – so you’ll need to book an appointment.

Are contact lenses better than glasses?

Contact lenses aren’t necessarily better than glasses – just different. They offer a wider field of view, they don’t fog up, and they’re less obtrusive, therefore they are a great option for when you’re on the go.

All ACUVUE® contact lenses have UV Blocking to help provide protection against transmission of harmful UV radiation to the cornea and into the eye. UV absorbing contact lenses are NOT substitutes for protective UV absorbing eyewear such as UV absorbing goggles or sunglasses because they do not completely cover the eye and surrounding area. You should continue to use UV absorbing eyewear as directed by your optician.
