Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How long does a contact lens exam take?

It varies depending on what tests are being performed and how many patients are being examined. However, most patients can expect their appointment to take between 30 and 60 minutes.

How long does a contact lens prescription last for?

Contact lens prescriptions are typically valid for 1 year from the date of your exam.

How old do I have to be to wear contact lenses?

Lots of teens (and even some pre-teens) wear contact lenses. It's more about responsibility and attitude than age since they require care and cleanliness. Seeing an eye doctor will help you figure out whether contact lenses are right for you. Daily disposable contacts can be a good option for new and younger contact lens wearers since they don't require cleaning or disinfection.

How long will it take for my contact lenses to feel normal?

This varies for everyone. If you feel like it has been too long, the best way to find out why you're uncomfortable, and what you can do about it, is to talk to your eye doctor.

Should the contact lens move around after I put it on?

A proper fitting contact lens will move just slightly with each blink, but should stay in place as you move your eyes around. Even on that rare occasion when a contact lens moves off the center of the eye, it usually stays on the eye and can simply be moved back to center.

Is it okay if my vision is still blurry after putting on my contact lenses?

Many things can adversely affect your vision. It could be dry eyes, poor-fitting lenses, or an out-of-date prescription. It could also be a sign of a more serious problem not related to your contacts. You should always talk to your eye doctor about any issues you are having with your vision or your contact lenses.

# Helps protect against transmission of harmful UV radiation to the cornea and into the eye.

WARNING: UV-absorbing contact lenses are NOT substitutes for protective UV-absorbing eyewear such as UV-absorbing goggles or sunglasses because they do not completely cover the eye and surrounding area. You should continue to use UV-absorbing eyewear as directed. NOTE: Long-term exposure to UV radiation is one of the risk factors associated with cataracts. Exposure is based on a number of factors such as environmental conditions (altitude, geography, cloud cover) and personal factors (extent and nature of outdoor activities). UV-blocking contact lenses help provide protection against harmful UV radiation. However, clinical studies have not been done to demonstrate that wearing UV-blocking contact lenses reduces the risk of developing cataracts or other eye disorders. Consult your eye care practitioner for more information.
