FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between daily disposable and frequent replacement lenses?

Daily disposable contact lenses are worn once and thrown away at the end of the day. They eliminate the need for cleaning solutions and storage cases since they are meant to be replaced daily instead of bi-weekly or monthly.

Frequent replacement lenses, or reusable lenses, are worn for up to a month before needing to be replaced. Reusable lenses require daily storage and cleaning with multipurpose lens solution.

What are contacts made of?

These days, contact lenses are almost all made of different types of plastic, but two of the most common you may hear of are soft contact lenses and rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lenses. Soft contact lenses are typically either made of hydrogel or silicone hydrogen, which are soft and flexible. RGP contacts are more rigid than soft contact lenses. Today, these are mostly worn by people with specific eye issues, like severe astigmatism.

Are silicone hydrogel lenses good for dry eyes?

Studies of silicone hydrogel contact lenses haven't shown conclusive evidence of being better than other contact lens materials for dry eyes. If you've been diagnosed or have symptoms of dry eye disease, speak to your eye doctor about what material and brand of contact lens may work best for you.

How do I get contact lenses?

To get contact lenses, you'll need to make an appointment with an eye doctor for a contact lens fitting. Contact lens fittings may take longer than a regular eye exam since your eye doctor needs to determine what shape and size lens you need, as well as your prescription. If you're looking to try ACUVUE®, you'll find plenty of optometrists near you who carry ACUVUE lenses and can explain why they might be right for you.

Is it difficult to care for contact lenses?

Caring for reusable contact lenses is simple, especially when you get the hang of it. With multipurpose lens solutions and a clean contact lens case, cleaning, disinfecting and storing your contacts can be easy and convenient.

For the most convenient way to wear contacts, consider daily disposable contact lenses. You wear them for one day, then throw them away. This can help to avoid complications like infections.

Are contacts or glasses more convenient for your lifestyle?

The answer isn't that one or the other is more convenient all of the time. Contact lenses are not typically the only source of vision correction recommended by an eye doctor. There are benefits to both, and choosing to wear one or the other depends on things like how your eyes are feeling, what you are doing, and even the weather. If you plan to be active or you're regularly in adverse weather, contacts can work better than glasses. Glasses are great for when you've taken contacts out, are suffering from allergies, or when you want the style of glasses.

#Helps protect against transmission of harmful UV radiation to the cornea and into the eye.
WARNING: UV-absorbing contact lenses are NOT substitutes for protective UV-absorbing eyewear such as UV-absorbing goggles or sunglasses because they do not completely cover the eye and surrounding area. You should continue to use UV-absorbing eyewear as directed. NOTE: Long-term exposure to UV radiation is one of the risk factors associated with cataracts. Exposure is based on a number of factors such as environmental conditions (altitude, geography, cloud cover) and personal factors (extent and nature of outdoor activities). UV-blocking contact lenses help provide protection against harmful UV radiation. However, clinical studies have not been done to demonstrate that wearing UV-blocking contact lenses reduces the risk of developing cataracts or other eye disorders. Consult your eye care practitioner for more information.

Important information for contact lens wearers: ACUVUE Contact Lenses are available by prescription only for vision correction. An eye care professional will determine whether contact lenses are right for you. Although rare, serious eye problems can develop while wearing contact lenses. To help avoid these problems, follow the wear and replacement schedule and the lens care instructions provided by your eye doctor. Do not wear contact lenses if you have an eye infection, or experience eye discomfort, excessive tearing, vision changes, redness or other eye problems. If one of these conditions occurs, remove the lens and contact your eye doctor immediately. For more information on proper wear, care and safety, talk to your eye care professional, call 1-800-843-2020, or download the Patient Instruction Guides.
